martas Hotel Allegra Berlin

The rooms were spacious, breakfast was plentiful and refined, and the location was really convenient. My graduate students who stayed with me all said they had an enjoyable experience too. I also owe Hotel Martas Allegra Berlin a big thank you for helping with a booking problem. Four months before our trip, I had reserved five rooms through a well-known global booking platform for June 21 to June 24. On June 17, as I was traveling with eight students for an 18-day architectural tour of European sites, I suddenly got a message saying my credit card was marked invalid and the Berlin reservation would be canceled. The same card had worked for our Vienna stay, booked through that platform for June 29 to July 3, which we later completed without any trouble. I emailed the hotel while we were on the train to Munich. They called me soon afterward and said they would sort it out through their booking system. At check-in, the original price was honored, with no extra charges. That made a lasting impression on me. I got busy after returning to Taiwan and only wrote this comment later, but I haven't forgotten their help.

The breakfast was one of the best I've had at a hotel. Friedrichstr station is only a few minutes away on foot, so the location is fabulous.

There are lots of restaurants nearby, and the hotel is well placed near the train station. The staff were friendly and professional. My bathroom shower cubicle wouldn't close properly and leaked so badly I nearly flooded the room. Also, check-in is in a separate building across the street. Still, it was a decent stay.

The building has a lovely entrance and staircase, and the staff were helpful and accommodating. The rooms are a bit dated. Mine had two single beds and separate duvets, though queen beds would have been nicer. The shower door was too small to close properly.
