Wyndham Berlin Excelsior

The hotel was warm everywhere, including the meeting room. In my room, the air conditioning didn’t help unless I turned it up so high it got very loud. The beds were okay, but felt used, as did much of the furniture in the room and downstairs. Breakfast was fine, nothing special. I’ve been here since last evening. There was a piece of paper on the floor next to the bed, and I thought the cleaning staff might have missed it. But 24 hours later, the bed had been made and the paper was still in exactly the same spot. It’s okay, but I’ve stayed in better four-star hotels. I do like that someone from the hotel reads and responds to online comments. Maybe they’ll improve.

The hotel is perfectly placed for visiting the zoo, and the staff were helpful. My room was clean and big enough, though it got hot at night even with the radiator off. The air conditioning didn’t seem to work. One night, other guests were talking loudly in the corridor, and it sounded as though they were right in my room. That wasn’t the hotel’s fault. The place looks a bit run down and could use redecorating. I wasn’t a big fan of breakfast, though there was plenty on offer.

The location is the best thing about this hotel, and the breakfast was good. Some of the staff were very kind, but that’s about where the positives end. I stayed for about a week. The room cleaning wasn’t great, but the noise was worse. Remodeling noise, or something like that, went on from 8am until the afternoon every day except weekends. I asked to change rooms, but there was nowhere to move me. It was still far too loud, so I recorded it for them, and they just said, “It can’t be helped.” I couldn’t understand that attitude. I had to wake up against my will every morning. I regret staying here. I couldn’t relax, and it’s just a horrible experience I’m left with.

A good option for a budget stay in Berlin. The location was good, the staff friendly, and I had no problems with noise or disturbances. The room was nice, not huge but comfortable enough. Breakfast was good, though it got overcrowded on the weekend. The bar had nice cocktails.
