Augustus Hotel Bernkastel

The room was clean, and although it was a little small, it wasn't too cramped. The bathroom was nice, though it has glass walls, so keep that in mind if you don't want to see each other showering. The air conditioning didn't work properly, which made the hot weather uncomfortable. At breakfast, get there early if you want a seat and don't want to wait in a queue for more than 15 minutes.

The supermarket and liquor store right across the street were the one bright spot. The hotel itself felt very dark, closed in, and had very few windows. The rooms were small and old, and so were the toilets. My younger brother and I stayed there on February 2, 2023, on our way back from a ski trip before flying out of Frankfurt. I'm 43, he's 36, and I'm originally Brazilian, so it takes a lot to scare me. Still, those long, dark corridors without windows, with orange doors and creepy paintings, reminded both of us of the Overlook hotel from the shinning movie. I know the place may be trying to save electricity, but getting the motion sensors to switch on was difficult, and we couldn't get decent light in the corridors. When they did come on, those creepy paintings were right there. It scared the hell out of both of us.

We drove an hour because this hotel was supposed to be wheelchair accessible. The disabled parking bays were occupied by vehicles without disabled badges, including several motorbikes, so we had to unload the wheelchair before we could even try to park. Then we found the lift wasn't working. How is that accessible? Truly disappointing.

I spent four nights here on a business trip. The room was clean, WiFi was free, and the reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast at the Bistro was excellent, and in the evening you could get pizza and drinks at the bar. For this price range, I'd recommend it 10 out of 10.
