Hotel-Sonnenlay

Good breakfast, a nice lady, and a very good hotel :)

We had booked two nights through Booking.com on our way home from a holiday in Italy, hoping to enjoy this beautiful area a little longer before returning to work. The route planner estimated we'd arrive at 16:20, but after getting stuck in traffic jam after traffic jam in Germany, we messaged the hotel at noon to say we couldn't check in before 18:00. The hotel replied that we wouldn't be welcome after 18:00. I didn't see that message until 17:15, so I asked whether reception would be closed and if there might be another way to collect the key. When no reply came straight away, I called. The man on the phone was very unfriendly and said we couldn't come after 18:00. By 18:03, the Booking.com app showed that the hotel had cancelled our booking, so we just continued home. We complained to Booking.com, but they said they don't interfere with hotel policy. We paid for two nights and got nothing in return.

The welcome was warm and helpful, and breakfast was generous. The hotel is quiet, with its own parking, and the decor is adequate. We had a TV, balcony, and bathroom with a shower. The water pressure was a little weak, but still okay. The Moselle is less than 200 meters away on foot.

The owner clearly puts a lot of passion into her work, and breakfast was fantastic, with everything you could want. Our room had a retro feel but was clean. It's right beside the Moselle River, with an easy walk all the way to Bern, Kastell-Kues.
