Altstadt Hotel Bielefeld

The service was very good, and they were kind enough to bring me a small fridge, thanks. The room was sterile, though. There was no kettle or coffee maker, and you only get one small bottle of mineral water even on a longer stay or with two people. I also had just one pillow, with no spare in the closet, so I had to call the front desk. The twin beds pushed together left a hard ridge in the middle, which I hate. The comforter was for one person, and my feet stuck out. A mattress topper and a longer, wider comforter would have made the bed much better. Breakfast ends at 10 am, which is awfully early, though Sunday's 11 am time is good and should apply every day. Breakfast wasn't that great: just hard-boiled eggs, though there was some nice ham and smoked salmon. Coffee came from a machine. All in all, you get what you pay for, I guess, and food prices have gone up for everyone. I really wish they'd change the beds and add a kettle, maybe a small Nespresso maker too.

The family suite worked well for our long weekend, with enough room for two adults and three children. It has two bedrooms, modern tasteful decor, and was super clean. Just be ready to walk up two flights of stairs. It's a one-minute walk from the main shopping street in the older, more upscale part of Bielefeld, with a few bars nearby. Breakfast was nice and had attention to detail, the staff were very friendly, and parking was close by. At Euro 190 for the suite and 10 per person for breakfast, I thought it was a really good deal. I'll come back next time I need a hotel in Bielefeld.

The location in Bielefeld's historic town is hard to beat, and the hotel felt like a hidden gem. Our modern room was super clean, the breakfast was rich and delicious, and the staff were very friendly. A wonderful stay, and a city trip to Bielefeld doesn't get much better.
