DJH Jugendgästehaus JBB Bielefeld - Hostel

The rooms were quiet and tidy, but the front desk staff were astonishingly hostile to me. They disclosed my private data and laughed when I brought up DSGVO regulations. The manager didn't handle my complaint properly. I can't recommend this hotel. 🫣🫩🤢

The hostel itself is excellent: very clean, well maintained, with a comfortable bed and friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was brilliant, especially the bircher muesli. I didn't enjoy the filter coffee, but tea and juice were available too. The main problem was a large school group. With only a handful of individual travelers there, it was hard to work or rest in my room because children were screaming, shouting, running, and stomping through the whole building all evening. The staff kindly offered a quieter place to work, which I appreciated, though it wasn't ideal. The accompanying teachers didn't manage the students, and that made the stay difficult. Maybe large school groups should book the whole hostel exclusively. The group's disruption overshadowed what is otherwise an excellent hostel.

The hostel is mainly for young people, so for a work trip the atmosphere may not be a perfect fit. They are lively, vibrant, and playful. Still, when they realized I wasn't part of a youth group, they eventually placed me not too close to them. The location was perfect for me: Lidl and Rewe are nearby, there's a park with Bielefeld's historical museum 500 meters down the road, and the tram stops right outside. I came for a conference after booking at the last minute, when other hotels were either full or overpriced. I hadn't expected the hostel to be so clean and well maintained, or the service to be so good. I arrived early and was lucky that my room was ready, so I could check in ahead of time. I was also surprised to find a breakfast buffet. Thanks for the warm stay, and see you next time!

The Jugendherberge was nice, and I liked that it got quiet around 10 p.m. It's very close to the center, a good spot for a shop like this. I just wish the mattresses were softer, since they hurt if you prefer a softer bed. Also, for some reason, you can't take food with you.
