Hotel und Restaurant Rose

The hotel guests seemed to come second, and sometimes even to be a nuisance, while the staff focused entirely on the restaurant, especially around dinner. The location is the main thing going for the place: the old town, grocery store, two banks, shops, and plenty of restaurants are all an easy walk away. Inside, the suite was big enough, the main bedroom bed was extremely comfortable, temperature control worked well, and the kitchen had what I needed to prepare meals.

We could walk everywhere from the hotel, with the historic centre, cafes, bars, restaurants, shops, and a large grocery store right nearby. My 17-year-old daughter and I were in town for two nights for a high school anniversary in my hometown. We booked a Deluxe Room and got the spectacular "Stadtblick", a spacious room under vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and large windows looking toward the historic downtown and viaduct. The bathroom was roomy and even had a chair. Although the building has an elevator, our top-floor room required climbing two sets of stairs, one narrow and winding. We hauled our own bags, which was quite a workout, though the check-in staff offered to help. Our only small snag was the Lavazza coffeemaker: there were no instructions and we couldn't get it to work, so we wasted the coffee pods. Each extra pod costs $1 and they aren't replenished. We didn't book breakfast, but the restaurant is award winning and we'd like to try it next time. We highly recommend the hotel.

The apartment was really nice, but what stood out most was the service. We left a bag with personal things, including a second pair of glasses, a breastfeeding pump, and an electric toothbrush, in a nearby parking spot. Once we noticed that evening, we were already 300 km away. We called to ask if someone could check for it, and the woman who answered went straight there and found it. Her quick, kind help saved us a lot of trouble. When we came back on our way home, they handed the bag right over. We're really grateful.

I stayed in July, when it was 33c, and there was no a/c or ceiling fan in the room, so it was hard to get the air moving. The breakfast was great compared with US standards, and the location is amazing. The rooms are clean, and from reading older reviews it seems some things are starting to get updated. I'd stay again.
