Hotel Pension Kaempfelbach

The room itself was clean and spacious, but it felt bare: basic furnishings, one picture, a wardrobe, a double bed, a tiny desk and a small TV mounted above it. In such a big room, everything seemed undersized. A table and chairs would have helped. There was a fridge with its outer door hanging loose, but no coffee machine. The bathroom was clean and ensuite, though plain, with no water glasses or shower gel. Getting around could be an issue. There’s no elevator, so anyone with mobility problems needs a ground-floor room. Reception isn’t staffed during the week, only on weekends. Hotel Phoenix in Pfinztal, where I usually stay, also doesn’t have a permanent reception desk, but at least it’s open during the day. They were full this week, and by comparison the Phoenix makes this Pension look like a four-star hotel. The lack of a breakfast room might be easier to accept if the bakery three minutes away were still open. It’s closed permanently because the owner became too ill to reopen. There isn’t another bakery in the village, or in the villages to the north or south. I’m not looking forward to a cold Aldi breakfast tomorrow. A few booking problems dragged the stay down further. My reservation code was wrong, though the person I reached by phone was helpful. They then asked me to pay even though payment had already been taken, and I had to restart the login process. It also forced me to enter personal and address details again, although I’d already provided the address and the system seemed to have forgotten it. That “seamless registration process” was anything but. I’d rather not have to use this place again. It’s okay in a pinch, but only just.
