The roads to the farm are narrow, single-track, and have sharp bends, so I’d try to arrive in daylight. A microwave isn’t provided, though the spotless oven is powerful and has a fan and grill. Those are just planning notes, not complaints. We left feeling incredibly content and inspired, and I can’t recommend Regina, her family, the farm, the apartment, and the location highly enough. Sitting with freshly brewed coffee in the early morning, listening to birds and happy animals as the mist clears, was wonderful. If you bring binoculars, the Eagle's Nest is visible from the balcony on a clear day. We were there in June during 30-degree weather, but the apartment felt so spacious and cozy that even being indoors during bad weather wouldn’t feel confining. The wide hallways and doorways add to that sense of space. The apartment is far more spacious than the pictures suggest, and they don’t do the place justice. Everything we needed was there, including in the kitchen. I don’t use “immaculate” lightly: it looked freshly built, fitted, and decorated. Every surface was spotless, from the crockery and mirrors to the glass. Having renovated my own home, I noticed the exceptional finish on the flooring, paint, fittings, woodwork, grout, and silicone seals. The joinery was stunning. I think Regina's husband is the carpenter, and it looked like the furniture, walls, ceilings, doors, frames, kitchen cupboards, and balcony were made in house. I’m envious of that skill, especially alongside running a working dairy farm. Regina and her family made us feel very welcome. She speaks fantastic English, and it was lovely chatting with her when she had a short break from farm work. The wall prints are real pictures of the family working on the farm in the past, which we enjoyed looking at. The cows were adorable, and we were lucky to see some young ones running around, along with happy chickens dust-bathing. You can hear farm work and cowbells during the day, but it wasn’t disturbing.

Most of the sights were only 10 to 20 minutes away by car, and the hike to Söldenköpfl along the old brine pipeline trail starts right at the house. We had a wonderful nine-day Christmas holiday with our two children, aged 7 and 9, staying with Regina at the Schoberlehen mountain farm. Our apartment, Abendstern, had two roomy bedrooms, a lovely shower room, and a large living and dining area. It came with modern comforts, including underfloor heating, a fully equipped kitchenette, dishwasher, and fully automatic coffee machine. Fresh bakery goods were available from Monday to Sunday, as well as milk and eggs from the farm. Regina is a passionate mountain farmer and host. We especially loved the open views of Watzmann and Hochkalter from the wraparound balcony, and even from the beds. There was plenty to do in the Berchtesgaden area: winter walks around and across Hintersee lake in Ramsau, the trail to Söldenköpfl, tobogganing on Jenner mountain, skiing at Götschen, and a boat trip on Königssee lake, among other things. We had a great time and wholeheartedly recommend the apartment. It deserves every star.

The location is quiet and secluded, and they offer bread delivery, with fresh milk and eggs available on request. The hosts were wonderfully welcoming and the amenities were superb. These apartments are beautifully designed, with high-quality materials and careful attention to detail. They even left excellent coffee beans as a gift, ready to enjoy in the great Jura machine.
