The hike to Königssee works well with children, and the gorge is fantastic, though the circular route through it is a bit of a challenge. For something indoors, the nearby salt mine and Watzmann Therme spa are well worth a visit. When the weather’s nice, Aschauer Weiher is practically a must-see. We stayed in the large Hochkalter holiday apartment. Its open-plan living and kitchen space is nicely furnished, and the apartment has its own lighting concept. There are electric sunshades, but none of the rooms have blackout curtains. The two bedrooms have different setups: one has two single beds, the other a double. You can reach the huge, nicely furnished bathroom through three doors. It has both a shower and bathtub, plus an electronically controlled skylight. The location is a little outside town. Berchtesgaden is an easy walk of about an hour, or you can take the bus, which is free with the guest card. The bus to Salzburg is a good option too. It’s free up to the border, then there’s a small fare. You can buy the onward ticket from the driver when boarding.

There’s a fantastic view of the Alps, and the apartment is a great base for hiking and excursions around the Berchtesgaden region. It’s spacious, clean, modernly furnished, and very well equipped. We’d love to come back!

Mr. Hirsch gave us a warm welcome, and the apartment had everything we needed. It matched the description and was very spacious. By car, all the destinations were easy to reach quickly. We loved relaxing on the terrace in the evening with a glass of wine and a view of Watzmann. We’d be happy to return.

There’s potential here, and otherwise everything was fine. The apartment wasn’t fully clean, though, and for such a large room there was very little furniture or decoration, which made it feel a bit uncomfortable. Best regards.
