Gasthof Blankenberg

The setting was clean, pleasant, and welcoming. We came with a group of 16, and both the meal and the service were superb. The duck is especially worth trying.

We were very happy with our stay, and dinner was a real pleasure. Our room was spacious, with a fantastic view of Blankenstein, and we could keep our bicycles in a separate locked room. Breakfast had fresh fruit and vegetables, rolls, eggs, cheese, cold cuts, spreads, juice, and coffee or tea. The welcome was friendly too. We’d booked the wrong date three months earlier and only noticed on arrival day, but they let us come a day early. I also don’t agree with earlier reviews calling the owner unpleasant. We didn’t find them unpleasant at all, and it seems unfair to lower the rating just because someone isn’t open and chatty. That should be accepted and respected. We’d happily recommend both the accommodation and the guesthouse.

Breakfast was laid out right on the table, with plenty to choose from, and they were friendly and accommodating with special requests. We stopped overnight while cycling the Saale Cycle Path. The room felt hotel quality, including underfloor heating in the bathroom, and the bike room was great, dry and secure. We’d definitely recommend it.

They even made us a lovely dinner for in-house guests on their day off, and breakfast was beautifully presented. The inn sits on the Saale Valley Cycle Path, with modern, welcoming rooms and a friendly family atmosphere. There’s also a separate room for storing bicycles.
