Klingenstein AKZENT Hotel Wirtshaus Brauerei

We’re already looking forward to coming back. The meal was perfect, with a nice mix of brew pub atmosphere and traditional Swabian cuisine. The restaurant is part of a microbrewery, and its beer was smooth and refreshing. The food was delicious, portions were large, and the staff were personable and helpful. It’s conveniently located in Blaustein just outside Ulm, only a short drive from the city for work or a visit.

They seem to have their own microbrewery, and there’s plenty of parking. The hotel is well located in blaustine. Inside, there’s a large sitting area for dining and breakfast, and everything is looked after neatly and professionally. The breakfast menu is good and costs Euro 14.50 for outside guests. I’d definitely recommend it for a get-together or a place to stay while travelling.

The hotel itself was clean and modern, with a good bed. At the restaurant, though, service was chaotic. Ordering a starter and main seemed to confuse things, and the starter never arrived. We also got the wrong kind of beer. Looking around, other guests didn’t always get what they’d ordered either. A bit more professionalism would help.

The hotel is close enough to Ulm, with good public transport into the city centre. Parking is free, check-in was excellent, and the woman at the till tried to help with the aircon. I liked the onsite restaurant and its decent menu. Everything was clean and neat, breakfast was quite good, and there’s a proper fruit juicer. Checkout was smooth too. The building was a mixed bag. The original brewery seems to have been a brilliant old-fashioned building, while the newer section is concrete, glass and plywood. Someone enthusiastically called it a “wooden room.” The real issue was the air conditioning. One side of our room faced the setting sun and was all glass, turning the place into a greenhouse. The system was set to 19 degrees, but the room never came close and was unbearably hot. I tried adjusting it, and the receptionist did help, but the night was still very uncomfortable. Opening the window was the only relief, but it faced the restaurant area where people were sitting. If you’re expecting to relax in air conditioning during a hot summer, think twice. I took a star off for this.
