Natura Hotel Bodenmais

The location and accommodations were nice, and we enjoyed the breakfast, pool, and sauna. Massages are available too, though they aren’t therapeutic massages, so don’t expect muscle work. Given the price, I’m not sure I’d call it a budget hotel.

The beds were nice, the rooms clean, and the pillows were amazing. As for the rest, the hotel was a massive disappointment. The online photos oversell the place and its services, though credit to the photographer for a great job. It seems like an old ski hostel repainted in a modern-ish grey and black, with green and wood accents. Signs of its less glamorous past are still all over, beneath a thin modern veneer. The breakfast was extremely low quality compared with what other hotels at this price offer. There were cold cuts, cheese, omelettes you had to make yourself, mostly apples, pears and grapes, plus kiwi and bananas, store-bought yoghurt, Bavarian sausage, bread, butter, spreads, and coffee from a mid-range automatic espresso machine. Nothing memorable. Staff were friendly, but clearly overworked when you could find them. The name Active Budget Spa Hotel sets up expectations the place didn’t meet. For “Active,” I expected bikes, yoga, Pilates or fitness classes, guided activities or tours. None of that was offered apart from a “daily hike.” There’s a climbing wall on one side of the hotel, but it was closed. The “matrix gym” was smaller than the gym in a mid-class business hotel. In my opinion, it didn’t fit the description of an active or activity hotel. “Budget” didn’t fit either. Two adults, one dog, one 25 minute foot massage, and local tourist tax came to 466Eur for two nights. That’s borderline outrageous, and definitely not budget, especially in Bodenmais. For “Spa,” I expected a large pool, at least one whirlpool, several professional-feeling saunas with scheduled water on the hot rocks and different scents, and a cold pool, vats, or at least hoses to cool off. Instead there was one tiny steam room that smelled of chlorine, a medium-sized sauna packed with people with nobody managing the steam schedule, no whirlpool, and one cold-ish pool that was too big and cold for lounging but too small for swimming laps. I’ll visit the region again, but I’ll avoid this hotel at all costs. It’s a complete rip-off, and completely unfit for a romantic getaway or a spa weekend to recharge. Update: The owner complained to Google about my review and is threatening legal action. It seems to be happening to everyone who left a bad review, which is why I don’t think this hotel’s 4.7 rating is reliable. I’ve written about 100 reviews, good and bad, and I’ve never been threatened like this before.

The breakfast was tasty, and the atmosphere and fitness studio were cool. The service was great, and the staff were friendly too. I spent the holiday here with my parents, and we really enjoyed it. Amazing place, highly recommend for a holiday 💯
