I stayed here last week on a business trip to Bonn and had a nice time. It’s a little outside the city, but easy enough to reach by car. That also makes it quiet, a good spot to unwind from the day’s stress. The rooms and ambiance feel luxurious and were clean, and the staff were very friendly.

Getting to Altstadt is easy, since the hotel is right on a bus route and the ride takes about twenty minutes. The medical center is also within walking distance, and I didn’t find the location inconvenient like some reviews said. The hotel itself is cute, with decently sized rooms that are a little dated but charming. I’m not sure it’s very baby friendly, though. I was there with a friend and her baby, who made a mess at breakfast and spilled a whole sippy cup of water. The tiny napkins we had weren’t enough to soak it up. The next day, the breakfast worker came over and yelled at us in German for making a mess. I don’t speak German well, though I understand more. I asked him to speak English, but he said he couldn’t, then yelled and left. We felt extremely uncomfortable afterward. My poor friend was on her knees picking up the pieces the baby had dropped under the table. When I raised it, the front desk was kind and apologized for him. They said they do consider themselves family friendly, and everyone else had been welcoming and kind to my friend and the baby. Still, I wouldn’t stay here again with children. It seems a decent option for a business trip to the medical center, alone or with another adult.

Luis Tobar-Klotz in the breakfast room made our mornings, and the breakfast itself was fabulous. He has such a great hospitality personality. Honestly, he should be managing or working at the front desk. The tea selection was amazing too, though Arthur wouldn’t let us have another cup. There used to be tea, water and coffee after breakfast in a little side hall near the other elevator, which someone called the garden room or maybe garden hall. I think events might be held there. I didn’t look around much, since I’d only gone to get tea and that was a year ago. This was our second visit because we loved the first. The rooms are darling mid-century modern, very clean, and the bed and pillows are comfortable. Getting into the shower could be hard for someone disabled, and there are stairs to the elevator on one side. The sour part of this stay was Arthur at the front desk. He knew we were returning guests, but was off-putting and downright rude when I needed extra pillows because of my disability. Buying many items that make them money seemed to be an inconvenience to him. Our room had mistakenly been booked for one person instead of two, so we paid for the extra guest at check-in. Apparently rooms are set up differently for one guest. They had to bring up the second person’s pillows, duvet and towels, then tissue too because they hadn’t checked whether it was restocked. Arthur seemed put out about providing what should have been there for a two-person stay. Really, towels would have made sense even for one person staying a few days. I edited my original review after the management replied. I’m not confused about where we stayed. Last year, a young worker followed me into the other elevator after I got tea. That elevator was more hidden, and I remember the hotel and the spot clearly. It was scary, and I was glad to be in another section this time. The man followed me to the room I’d gone into with the housekeeper instead of my own. While he was talking with the housekeeper, I fled and told the front desk. They spoke with the worker, who was staying at the hotel, and told him not to follow guests to their rooms. My husband was LIVID because he’d been in a business meeting. From the reviews, it seems management doesn’t take constructive criticism well. What a disappointment, especially since Luis is wonderful. I hope he finds a better hotel to work at. I’d gladly write him a recommendation wherever he goes.

Service was great, and I really appreciated that they sent my invoice to the room. I just wish they’d left more water in the rooms. The hotel is away from the city center buzz, with a bus stop not far from the entrance. A great place if you like nature and want some peace and quiet.

My father and I stayed here for three nights during his medical trip. The place is more than wonderful.
