Maritim Hotel Bonn

I've been here about five weeks. Johannes has been especially kind and helpful. I was impressed he remembered my name after we’d only spoken once, and I always look for him when I need help. The rest of the staff are friendly too. The room is very spacious and the location is excellent, around a five-minute walk from the tram station. The downsides are the unreliable Wi-Fi and the air conditioning. The Wi-Fi dropped every five minutes. Even in winter, the room sometimes got too warm with the windows open. The only temperature settings I could use were 27 or 28 and above. Set it to 26 or lower and the air conditioner switches off.

Free parking is available at a nearby public lot, and the hotel is close to the Christmas market and other local attractions. It's a big place with plenty to do inside, and our room was spacious. Very family-friendly.

We only stopped for one night on the final stretch of our European driving holiday. Booking on arrival day got us a very reasonable room and breakfast price. The hotel felt plush, the beds and room were extremely comfortable, and breakfast had lots of variety. The Metro is just a couple hundred metres away, so we could easily spend a pleasant evening in the city centre. The Piano bar was a bit strange for us. We went hoping for cocktails with piano music, but there was a German guitarist and singer doing rock songs in comic accents. He played a couple of piano numbers, but the music was quite loud and not the background piano we expected. The staff were polite, and Mr Rana, the Indian receptionist, deserves a mention. When we checked in, we asked him about the trains. Later, although he was off duty at the station, he remembered our names and made sure we had the right train. After he got off, he even jumped back on to tell us it was our stop. We were impressed he went so far beyond his duties.

The retro style was actually part of the appeal for us. It doesn't feel up to date, but I liked the old business era look, right down to the gold trimmed elevators. That's just my taste. My family really enjoyed Bonn's cozy feel, and we'd like to visit marintim again. We were there in April for the POST marathon, and it was a lovely stay. The hotel is in a green government building area, away from downtown and the tourist spots, which suited me. S-Bahn is very close, buses and U-Bahn are nearby, and there’s a big park for walks. We could get downtown easily. Our family room comfort was large, with enough spare floor space for family yoga, hahah, and a corner position gave us views on two sides. The bed was comfortable for me, though that depends on personal preference. Breakfast was another nice part. I liked the slightly retro restaurant and hope it doesn't get renovated. The buffet was well arranged and had more choice than other hotels in a similar grade. Since the place is big, breakfast felt relaxed, and we enjoyed watching the S-Bahn through the windows. The staff were friendly and helpful. We arrived before 1 pm, earlier than the official check-in time, which I think was 3 pm, but they checked us in anyway.
