Hotel Deutsches Haus

I wouldn't recommend staying here at all. The first room I was offered smelled strongly of mold. The receptionist seemed to know about it and gave me another room, which smelled too, though not as badly. On my second night, I came back and found there was no light in my room. Another hotel guest had the same issue. There was no receptionist, since they all leave after 21h, and no way to call them. It seems the receptionist may have forgotten to book us in properly: we could get into the room, but the light wouldn't turn on. The emergency number goes to an outsourced company that can open the entrance doors and handle a few minor things. They couldn't reach the receptionist using the number they'd been given, which isn't accessible to customers. I'm sitting in my dark room now, wondering how this kind of business practice can even be legal in Germany in 2025. The authorities should look into it as soon as possible. Funny enough, the wifi works.

The rooms are good, the breakfast buffet is quite good, and the location in the historic city center is very good. The receptionist and customer service were respectful and friendly. But smoking is allowed inside the hotel. There are smoking rooms on the third level, so you're exposed to secondhand smoke the whole time you're there. Not healthy.

The room was generously sized, as was the bathroom, and they had a cot for the baby on request, which was perfect. It's central in Braunschweig, and the hotel's own paid parking lot made things easy and gave peace of mind. Everyone was welcoming and the service friendly. There are stairs into the building, though, and I didn't see wheelchair access. The bed was a bit hard, but not a big deal. I'd recommend it!

It's an older-style hotel right in the city center. The staff were helpful and accommodating, and the breakfast was perfectly adequate. It's not very modern, but certainly fine for a night in the center.
