Camp Am Wasser

We’d phoned the campsite and were told we didn’t need a reservation. They knew we wanted to stay for two nights and confirmed it, so we looked forward to our visit. But when we arrived, the receptionist said stays under three nights weren’t allowed and claimed there was no free space, even though we could see plenty. She was very rude and switched to German mid-sentence despite knowing we couldn’t understand it. It felt like being back in the DDR.

At the end of June it was spacious and not too crowded, and the staff kindly helped us find a good pitch for our motorhome. I liked being able to reserve ahead, too. The toilets and showers were clean, with enough of them. It’s close to a beach, and bikes were available to rent at a reasonable price. We took a nice ride to Kap Arkona, and I enjoyed buying fresh bread at the market in the morning.

The facilities were very clean, it’s close to the beach, and the English-speaking staff were really helpful.

We had only a tent and were given a pitch in the woods at the northwest corner of the campsite. The facilities were nice, with clean toilets and showers and free drinking water. But the mosquitoes made the stay unpleasant and annoying. There were so many that we could barely stand outside for more than five minutes, so most of the time we had to stay in the tent, where it was super hot. Even then, we got hundreds of bites, which was a bit horrifying.
