The food was the bright spot: the trout was perfect, the spaetzle tasted like grandma’s, and the chanterelles were full of flavor. The inn’s exterior is picture-perfect, with its flower-filled balcony and well-kept half-timbering. Inside, though, was a complete disappointment. Come after a good breakfast, because the wait for food can feel longer than traveling the whole Black Forest High Road. We waited an hour and twenty minutes for trout. The waitress said that was perfectly normal, and her tone was about as friendly as a rejected planning application. When we were offered a free grappa as an apology, we turned it down, and the response was icy. The kitchen really delivers on the promise of the facade, but that doesn’t make up for the abysmal service. Two stars out of five. Everything else was a disappointment waiting to happen.

We came across this place during a weekday stay in the area. The food was good and the staff friendly. Worth a visit if you’re looking for somewhere to eat nearby.

A typical German restaurant, with very tasty food and super friendly staff. They also have wine from local winemakers.
