The schnitzel we found later at a fast food Imbiss in the market square was piping hot and the best we’d ever had. This place was the opposite. We came in expecting a good home-cooked schnitzel at a traditional old-style beer house and ordered two schnitzels with chips. The meals arrived with fries, all stone cold. Staff took them away after we complained but didn’t say anything, and after waiting a while with no idea whether food was coming back, we finished our drinks, left cash, and went. A really bad experience.

The location seems to be the only thing keeping this restaurant going. We went during schnitzel week and I ordered one, but got a thin, greasy piece of meat. The fries were good, at least. My wife’s baked fish was a thickly breaded piece of white fish that looked like it came from a box and had been put in the oven. We’d chosen to sit inside to get away from the smokers outdoors, but the windows were open and cigarette smoke came into the restaurant. The basement was flooded with about 5-10 cm of water when I went to the restroom downstairs. The meal was such a letdown that I’d rather have gone hungry. I’d avoid the place.

I’m not sure this address is actually for Alte Thorschenke Brauhaus, since I couldn’t get clear information. I do want to review the restaurant called “Alte Thorschenke Brauhaus.” My Haxe cost 26€ and came with four slices of dried bread, which felt completely overpriced. The service was normal, and the location was the good part.

We asked for tap water and got a 0.2 l glass, then were charged 3.90€ for each one as still water. That came to 11.70€ for 0.6 l of water from the tap. Never again, MF.

The reservation we paid for turned out not to be a reservation at all. After a lengthy credit card dispute, I finally got the money back. I’d still be willing to speak with the management, or prospective guests, if they want to address what happened. We arranged this hotel for my 70-year-old mother-in-law, whose train was delayed until after ten, and called to let them know. Leia, “the manager’s daughter,” answered and was rude and unwilling to help. Three times she said it wasn’t her problem to get my mother-in-law into her room, and that she couldn’t check in if her train was late. When we asked her to help find a way, she laughed and said it was our tough luck, asking what we expected her to do, help? She refused to let us speak with the manager, saying her mother was the manager and a complaint wouldn’t matter. Leia repeated that she had no desire or obligation to help a guest get in after ten, “not even in an emergency,” and said it wasn’t a hospitality business and helping a guest wasn’t her problem. She also said no one staffed the front desk between 2000 and 0600, raising serious safety and security concerns. In twenty years of extensive travel around the world, this was the rudest hotel service I’ve encountered. I’ve stayed in rougher places, including Central American hostels without hot water and tent camps on air mattresses in the desert, and hotel, pensiones, and hostel managers have always tried to help when plans changed. Here, it was simply “tough luck,” with no explanation or apology. Shocking lack of hospitality from Leia. The update is dated 16October. Don’t stay here.
