Hotel Berg

We had a clean, comfortable room, and the shared bathroom turned out to be better than I’d expected. There was a sink in the room and fresh towels. We skipped breakfast, so I can’t say how it was, though it did smell good. My main gripe as a Brit was not having a kettle in the room. The hotel could use a bit of a refurb, but it’s only cosmetic. We were on the top floor, and climbing all those stairs reminded me I need to work on my cardio. It’s well placed for both trains and planes.

My Room 22 had loads of useful things: a TV, sink, lit mirror, full-length mirror, extension cable, five different light sources, slippers, towels, and a hair dryer. The door was incredibly thick, unlike any I’d seen before. It was right by the bathroom, though, so I heard the pipes when someone showered and even my neighbor coughing. Light sleepers may want to keep that in mind. The shower and toilet are outside the room, and I knew before arriving that the hotel probably has no lift to the upper floors. The location was fantastic, only a five-minute walk from Köln Hbf. I stayed one night and had a good time.

For a quick work trip, this was good enough, and I’d come back. The decor could be a bit dated, but the hotel was clean and convenient for the money. Staff were very helpful, and breakfast was good.

The shared bathroom wasn’t the cleanest, but with this price and location, it wasn’t a big deal. I had a very good one-night stay otherwise, and the staff were really friendly.
