The price felt far too high for what we got, even with the markets close by. It was obvious rates had been raised specifically for the Christmas Markets. Breakfast was pleasant, but it wasn't included. We had trouble getting the parking garage machine to read the QR code for the discounted hotel rate, too. Parking is in a nearby garage. The front desk gentleman was very nice and helpful. Our room and bathroom were clean, but much smaller than expected, and the thin walls meant we could clearly hear the neighboring TV. The elevator was broken, and our room was on the third floor. It wasn't a problem for us, but we should have been told before confirming the booking. I would have been very upset to arrive and find out if I couldn't manage the stairs. There was a big crowd at the desk and it seemed nobody was available to help, so I was grateful I could check out myself.

The rooms were modern and very clean, with a comfortable bed. It's a quiet spot in the old town, near restaurants and the main train station. Breakfast was great, but cost extra. The shower wasn't well designed and water ran across the floor. The room stayed too warm even with the window open. When I arrived around 6pm, no staff were there, and checking in online took a long time in the cold entrance hall. Online checkout was unclear, so I didn't dare use it.

The rooms are minimalist and thoughtfully equipped with what you need, though they'd be more comfortable with a little extra space. Housekeeping cleaned them carefully every day, and the staff were polite, helpful, and good at finding solutions. We were very satisfied with both service and location during our stay in Cologne. It's easy to explore on foot and get to public transport from here. I'd gladly recommend it to anyone wanting a central, clean, reliable hotel.

For our week in Cologne, CityClass Hotel am Heumarkt felt like home. Though it's in the middle of the Old Town, the entrance is tucked into a quiet courtyard. Cologne Cathedral is a short walk away, with countless restaurants just steps from the hotel and the Rhine River moments away. A great spot to explore the city.

We found the parking garage discount a big plus. It took us a moment to work out that the discounted payment only works at the machine just before the exit! Outside can get a little noisy, but that's part of being right in the center. The staff were very friendly and the location was great. Rooms are basic and not very spacious, but have pretty much what you need. A smart TV would be nice so you could watch something other than German television. We didn't like the cushions, so bring your own or ask for extra pillows.
