Hotel Coellner Hof

The service was friendly, and the hotel is reasonably close to the main train station, so it works well for a short trip. My room wasn't very big, but it was enough for one traveler.

The breakfast had a good range of choices, and they can make you a cappuccino if you'd like. I'd stay here again. I spent one night in Cologne, and the room was small but fine for just me. It was very clean and had great air conditioning. I could hear people outside, but closing the window fixed that. The toilet was clogged at first, though calling for help got it sorted. I also used the parking across the street, €18 per day, much cheaper than the other places around.

The highlight for me was breakfast. There was so much to choose from, it was hard to decide, and the restaurant on the ground floor had a really nice atmosphere. The staff were welcoming and friendly. I had a single room with a large, comfortable bed and enough space. I only missed having a minibar and a kettle or coffee maker, but for one night I could do without them. A small supplies shop nearby sells drinks and snacks. The bathroom was a bit old-fashioned, though the hot water and over-bath shower both worked fine, and bath and body soap was provided. Hansaring S-Bahn and Ebertplatz U-Bahn are very close, making it easy to reach the city center. Coellner Hof was reasonably priced, and I'd happily stay again.

At C$384/night, a room without air conditioning or complimentary tea, coffee, or water didn't feel like good value. Of the five other hotels I stayed at on my bike tour, this one came a distant last for value.
