Hotel Merlin

A simple place in a very convenient spot. It was clean, the owner was really friendly, and there are good breakfast options around the corner.

The owners were incredibly welcoming, with helpful tips and a warm goodbye each day. My room was clean and well furnished, with everything I needed for a city trip, including a comfortable bed, an affordably priced, well-stocked minibar, and a safe. I stayed six nights for a business trip and can highly recommend Hotel Merlin, especially for first-time visitors to Cologne. It’s a five-minute walk to the train station and about ten minutes to the Kölnmesse exhibition center. There’s no breakfast, but plenty of cafes and shops nearby, so that wasn’t a problem. The hotel also has no elevator, but the good value and homely feel make up for it. I’ll definitely stay here again if I visit Cologne.

Lutz, the owner, had tracked our very delayed train and was waiting with a warm, cheerful welcome. Our room was very clean, with everything we needed and more, and we slept well. Hotel Merlin is an easy short walk from the station and perfectly placed for walking into town. There are local restaurants nearby for dinner or breakfast. We booked directly with the hotel.

The welcome and service were wonderful, and I’m very glad I chose this hotel for my two nights in Cologne. I was there for an event at the Lanxess Arena, just a five-minute walk away. The city centre is also an easy, lovely walk, and trains and trams are easy to reach. There are some nice local coffee shops in the area, which is quite quiet despite being so close to the centre. I highly recommend this hotel if you get the chance, rather than staying in other hotels in the area or city centre.
