The room was roomy and clean, and the shower had hot water almost straight away. We also appreciated being moved to a quieter room facing inward on the fifth floor when we arrived. The air conditioning struggled to keep things cool overnight, so it helped that we could open the window. We picked the Lindner Cologne City Hotel for a Christmas stay because it was close to shops, restaurants, and the cathedral. The lobby bar was nicely stocked and had a pleasant feel, though staff were often nowhere to be seen. Once, a server noticed our empty glasses and still went outside for a cigarette with the receptionist. Christmas breakfast was the main letdown. We were sent to a conference room instead of the usual breakfast area, and it didn’t seem fully set up even though we weren’t early. We had to ask for spoons and for the coffee machines to be switched on. Most staff were friendly, but the egg chef seemed grumpy and unwilling to be there that day. It was a decent stay, with a few service irritations.

The breakfast had a great selection, and the staff kept everything tidy and well supplied while being friendly and attentive. My room, 122, was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a bed I liked and pillows at just the right firmness. I also enjoyed being able to open the window all the way for fresh air. I’d asked for a quiet room and they kindly gave me one. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint because previous guests had left marks. The location is excellent for the price, and I’d happily book here again. Thanks!

The only real disappointment was the spa, which has been closed for a while even though it still seems to be advertised. Otherwise, the hotel sits in a great spot surrounded by shops and restaurants, has convenient parking underneath, and a nice gym on site.

What made coming back to the Lindner Hotel in Cologne feel so good was knowing I’d be returning to somewhere safe and comfortable after enjoying the cathedral, Christmas market, and restaurants. Three people at the front desk, Johanna Turner, Jesse Karsiko, and Nadiem, were the reason for that feeling. They were consistently helpful, patient, kind, professional, friendly, respectful, capable, reliable, and funny. I could keep going. I travel a lot and have had plenty of both good and bad hotel experiences, and this one was very much a good one because of them. A hotel takes many people to run well, but staff who stand out like this deserve recognition. I hope the Lindner Hotel knows how valuable these three are. They’re exactly the sort of people guests want to meet, and the kind who make people want to return. I absolutely enjoyed my stay. Thank you, Johanna, Jesse, and Nadiem!! : )

we were there for 3 days and 2 nights and had a lovely little stay in cologne. breakfast was just right for us asians from the philippines, with loads to pick from, both cold cuts and hot dishes. even had a COSTA machine for my hot chocolate. everything was great.
