Motel One Köln-Mediapark

We were surprised by how quiet it was at night, after having some doubts at first, and slept wonderfully in a comfortable bed. The room was flawless and had everything we needed, and breakfast was fresh, hot, and thoroughly enjoyable. From arrival to departure, the staff were exceptionally friendly and professional. They work together with a real team spirit and family-like atmosphere, and you can see the care and attention they give guests. We’d happily stay again on a future visit to Köln.

The breakfast buffet was fresh and nicely presented, but the choice is limited and the space is tiny for a hotel this large. It gets crowded very quickly, so we often had to eat by reception. Don’t expect much warm food beyond some lukewarm hard-boiled eggs. The same setup seems to apply at all Motel One locations, so it wasn’t a surprise to me, but anyone used to a bigger breakfast may find it underwhelming. The bar is open 24/7, handy after a long day or if you want a late drink without leaving the building. The gin selection is surprisingly good for a budget hotel, though drinks are on the pricey side, and the atmosphere is relaxed. The rooms are clean, well maintained, and usually quiet and comfortable, with good beds and practical layouts. A street-facing room will pick up noise from the busy road, so light sleepers should ask for one facing the courtyard. Reception and bar service were consistently friendly and efficient, and the modern design, clean functional rooms, and good value are what I expect from this chain. The great location and reliable experience earn it 5 stars from me despite the breakfast drawbacks.

The location in Cologne is another reason I’ll choose this place again. The very polite staff make it feel welcoming, and the older gentleman at the bar stood out as especially friendly and helpful, always ready to lend a hand and keep the atmosphere pleasant.

Comfortable, cozy, and clean, with friendly, helpful service. I only wish there were a kettle and tea tray in the room.
