The quiet, beautiful setting and easy access to central Cologne were the good parts. The room, though, was freezing and drafty, with no way to adjust the temperature, almost as if the windows were open. The place also needed serious renovation and wasn't very clean. We weren't offered breakfast, and after seeing the condition of the hotel, I'm not sure we'd have wanted it. The large dogs on the property were intimidating and unfriendly toward guests. Not a good stay.

I'm staying in a non-smoking room that reeks of cigarette smoke, and the whole place is dirty and smelly. The TV doesn't work, the shower drain is clogged, and several fixtures are broken. I also couldn't find a smoke detector, just an empty attachment on the ceiling. Two large Great Danes, apparently hotel pets, wander freely around the courtyard near reception and bark late at night, which makes me uneasy about going outside. The garage is being used to store classic cars and other odd vehicles that don't seem to belong to guests. That's not a major problem, but it is strange. The older man at reception was unpleasant, though the other staff were friendly. This feels like a health and safety hazard. I should have read the other reviews before booking. One star for the story I'll tell my friends and family if I get through this nightmare.

It's close to the airport, and the city center is about 20 minutes away by train after a two-minute walk to the U-Bahn. Breakfast was reasonable. Just watch out for the big dog.

Two barking "Great dane" dogs at the entrance were an extra surprise. My room was old, dirty, and cold. One of the worst experiences I've had.

The room had no heaters, and it was only 5 to 7 degrees. Very bad.
