I arrived at midnight after two flights and found Pension am Helenenwall locked, with no staff, key, or way to get inside. A short message from the host came a few hours earlier, while I was flying and unable to read it. There was no late check-in option, such as a code, key box, or reception. I ended up alone in Cologne at 00:00 without a place to stay, had to find another hotel at extra cost, and lost the money I'd paid for this booking. I had booked through Booking.com for September 2025 with payment guaranteed. The stated check-in window was 14:00-18:00, far too narrow for international travelers. Tourists should know that access outside those limited hours isn't guaranteed, even after paying. I strongly advise avoiding this accommodation.

The location was a real plus: near everything, but away from the thick of it. The accommodation is dated, as other photos show, but it all works and is fine if you just need somewhere to sleep for a couple of nights. It isn't suitable for people with mobility challenges. I gave it three stars for two reasons. For what you get, it was expensive, though I was there in December and the price may have been higher than usual. I paid extra for a late check-in, but still got a little attitude when I arrived at 21.40. Also, the heat hadn't been turned up ready for me, and since I arrived late, I spent the first half of the night shivering in bed.
