Ibis Styles Konstanz

Konstanz felt overpriced for what you get here. The rooms are small and sparse, even though they’re clinically clean, and extra charges seem to come at every opportunity. The TV is so tiny it’s almost impossible to watch unless you stand right in front of it. There was only one small shower towel and no hand towel, and no in-room drinks setup such as a kettle or water, which is unusual for this area. The surroundings are bleak and unattractive. Not every room is wheelchair friendly, so ask the staff directly if that matters for your booking. Ibis hotels work well enough for short business stops, but this Ibis Styles Hotel was disappointing and oversells its product.

The rooms are modern, clean, and quiet, and reception is open 24 hours with friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was good, healthy, and had a French touch. There’s a grocery store nearby, plus a Chinese restaurant I’d recommend. Getting here is easy, though be careful where you park, as some of the owners around the hotel are a little particular.

I’m a big fan of the underwater look here. The fish decorations and shapes are playful, and I wish the theme had carried a little further into the bedroom because it would have made the room feel really cool too. Service was great, and breakfast was the usual Ibis-style good value way to start the day. I’ve stayed at a lot of Ibis Styles hotels, and this one is my favourite.

Cyclists seem to make up a lot of the guests, riding around or along Lake Constance, so keep to the footpath to avoid possible clashes. The hotel also has a table tennis table on the terrace and a small playground for children. I was there on business and picked the Ibis Styles for its location. The pictures show an incredible view, Aldi and the DIY store instead of Lake Constance, hihi. That didn’t bother me since I left in the morning and came back at night. The location works well for both Aldi and the lake, and if you cross the main road and head toward the water, you won’t be disappointed. L'Hosteria and Brauhaus Konstanz are just beyond the Bodensee Konferenzhaus along the lakeside path. Breakfast was ok, much like a Motel One, and my room seemed larger than a comparable Motel One room. It was quiet and I slept well. Check-in and checkout can be done digitally or in person. Online payment is by credit card, while at the hotel you can also use an EC card. As is now familiar, the elevator only works when you hold your room card up to it. The stay was pleasant and fairly priced. If I were here privately, I’d have insisted on the Lake Constance side, hihi. I can recommend the place, though I didn’t try the bar in the evening.
