Zieglerbräu Altstadthotel

There’s free parking, and across the road we found a great restaurant with delicious food at a reasonable price. Our room was clean, comfortable, and nice. The kitchenette on our floor had a fridge and facilities for making tea.

Breakfast was plentiful. We ordered the night before and got platters of cured meat and cheese, croissants, rolls, apples, apricots, and yogurt. The hotel is conveniently placed for the castle and downtown. Our room faced the main road, though, and with the windows open in the summer heat, traffic noise kept reaching us at night. The pillows were small and flat and could use an upgrade.

We only ate at the restaurant. The terrace was nice, and the traditional German food was decent in quality and came in very generous portions. Service was polite, but there often didn't seem to be enough staff, so we had to wait quite a while.

When we arrived, the room had been prepared for only one person, so I went straight down to ask for another set of bedding and towels. Half an hour passed with no change, and when I returned the receptionist was on a personal call. I was told, “but you’re not going to sleep now anyway”. I explained that after a long trip I had planned to nap and shower. The receptionist then brought the bedding while scolding me and calling me rude. It was some of the worst service I’ve had in Germany. The hotel itself is very dated.
