Hotel Contel Darmstadt

The rooms have plenty of space and the staff are attentive, so the service was good. Inside, the hotel does look a little old. One nice surprise was the air in the room, which felt well filtered and just right for humidity and temperature. I slept really well.

The room itself was large and laid out well, and the staff were pleasant. The restaurant was very good too. But I booked a twin and was given a double instead. They said they were full and couldn’t move me, so I had to make do. Internet access felt stuck in the 80s, basically nonexistent. The hotel’s general appearance needs a makeover. Since it’s outside the city and there isn’t much around, good internet really matters. This was 2016, after all.

We only stayed one night, and it was lovely. The place is pretty big and close to a shopping center. Friendly, helpful staff, a clean and comfortable hotel with nice amenities, and tasty food.

The room had nice furniture, good art on the walls, strong WiFi, and a big TV, but none of that helped when I couldn’t sleep. The hotel is overdue for renovations and feels outdated. There was no AC or ceiling fan. The window only opened about 2 cm, with no bug screen, so insects could get in, along with noise from the restaurant below. I understand skipping air conditioning for environmental reasons, but the lack of a fan was rough. The queen bed had just one fitted sheet over the mattress and a winter duvet in June, with no other sheets. I was sweating and barely slept.
