Best Western Residenz Hotel

The location is great, but the lack of air conditioning, a room fridge, or ice means I can’t recommend this hotel anymore. We’d stayed when it was a Best Western, when you knew what to expect, but it’s no longer in the chain and has changed a lot for the worse. Our room was already too warm on arrival, despite the window being slightly open. We soon found that was as far as it would open. I couldn’t work out the air conditioning after five minutes, so I went back to reception, since there’s no phone in the room. I was told the system had been decommissioned. We found a fan, but it only pushed the hot air around. Even with it running and just a sheet on the bed, the room was too warm for comfortable sleep. That was the main reason we’d tell people not to stay. The mini fridges have also been removed, and there’s no hotel bar or ice machine, so during our six days we couldn’t get a cold drink in the room. Breakfast is included, but the bacon and eggs were lukewarm. If you want toast, you’re out of luck because the toaster has been taken out of the breakfast room. There is a decent choice of cold meats and cheeses. They have a system for opting out of daily room service in the name of being green, and in theory you can get clean, dry towels from the self-service room. In practice, there were never any there. Oddly, while pursuing that green idea, they still have an old halogen bulb in the bathroom. The bathroom was adequate. The shower is over the bath, so there’s a big step in and out, but the water gets nice and hot.
