I slept better here than I have in years. The bed was comfortable, and the room kept outside noise out very well. The decor was stylish and felt high-end, though the single room itself was very small. The carpet could be an issue for anyone with allergies. Breakfast had plenty of variety, tasted good, and used top-quality ingredients. The location is excellent, very close to the city centre. Parking is tiny, and getting through the very narrow gate takes some skill. There was no mini fridge or kettle in my room, but I didn't mind much.

The dinner restaurant was nice, but we won't stay here again. Our top-floor double room under the eaves was very warm, with no air conditioning. Opening the windows brought in a lot of traffic noise from the main road, so stuffy air kept us awake the first night. The extra bed was so hard it felt like a plank of wood, and all three of us, one adult and two kids, had to squeeze into the double bed. A different extra bed was found for the second night, and that one actually had a mattress. Reception still wouldn't do anything about the €30 charge for the unusable bed on the first night. They said it was a normal extra bed and had nothing to do with them. Breakfast was in a windowless cellar room with lots of fruit flies. It was noisy, and the customer service was poor.

We liked the hotel and especially the breakfast. The TV stopped working sometime during the night, though. Outside noise was blocked well, but we could still hear a lot from the hallways. If you're hoping to sleep past 8 a.m., bring earplugs.

Breakfast downstairs came with a smile, and the staff were very friendly. The rooms were nice and the bed comfortable. The hotel sits right at the entrance to the Fußgängerzone!

The location is nice, right at the edge of central Detmold. The downside was that my receptionist couldn't easily speak English.
