Wertschätzer Hotel - Krumme Str.

Breakfast was a highlight, with plenty of German favourites like bread, cheeses, cold cuts and spreads, plus granola, yogurt and seasonal treats. The coffee machine made lots of different drinks, and on weekends and holidays the restaurant offers a bigger brunch menu. Housekeeping was thorough and respectful, and we could choose whether to have the room cleaned with a simple door tag. Our room was quiet even though the hotel was full, and the blackout blinds helped us sleep well after exploring the city. The beds, linens and pillows were lovely, and the towels and roomy shower were well supplied with toiletries and a powerful hairdryer. There was also a full kitchenette with a fridge, two-burner stovetop, microwave, coffee machine, kettle and dishwasher. Little details like USB chargers and bedside switches that could light or darken the whole room were thoughtful touches. Wertschätzer Hotel sits in the lively heart of Detmold, close to places to eat and shop and local sights like the castle. The historic building has been renovated nicely, keeping its architectural character while adding modern conveniences. Reception was especially good, with a warm welcome and useful suggestions for things to see and do. A couple of practical details: check-in takes place at a dedicated area two doors from the main building, which has a secure gated entrance. There’s no elevator, and rooms on the first to third floors are reached by stairs. They’re solid stairs and the halls have interesting artwork, but anyone with mobility difficulties should know about this. Ground-floor rooms are available, and staff are happy to discuss them. The neighborhood felt friendly and safe for walks, and the courtyard seemed like a peaceful place to sit in summer.
