AKZENT Hotel Franziskaner

The staff were friendly and quite helpful, especially when I had to move because someone was smoking in the courtyard. I came from about 2hrs. away for the day to visit the church next door, the old town and this restaurant's monthly feature, and the smoke spoiled part of what should have been a really nice lunch. I can't understand how a restaurant with a destination feel and delicious seasonal specialities allows smoking in dining areas. I wanted to enjoy the meal and drinks in the sunny green courtyard by the bubbling fountain, but instead had to sit inside, where it was warmer and darker. Guests come to taste the food, not breathe in carcinogenic air from other diners. The smoking policy is disgusting and takes away from the traditional-style, comfortable atmosphere and the good food and drink. Management is letting smokers ruin other people's meals. As a customer, that tells me the owners support this behaviour and sadly don't care about my business.

The restaurant garden is a beautiful spot to relax, have dinner, or enjoy a German beer. The village is small and very quiet, and the regional specialities we tried were quite delicious. The staff were very friendly. We were here for a training course, and the meeting rooms were nice too.

The room itself was nice, and after an awful night in a very hot room the night before, we were hoping to get a cool, restful sleep. Things were fine until 10.00 p.m., when a group of hotel guests gathered in the courtyard right below our open windows. They talked loudly, with a dog barking now and then. Closing the windows reduced the voices a little, but then we lost any chance of a cool night, since these German hotels don't seem to have ventilation other than open windows. At 00.45 a.m. I woke up sweating and could still hear three people chatting outside. We'd already complained to reception at 10.00 pm, but the hotel didn't seem to do much to help. It felt like selling beer and wine mattered more than guests getting a peaceful night's sleep.

The inner beer garden and winter garden are beautiful and peaceful, and the atmosphere is pleasant and quiet. The food was decent. Service can be very slow, though, with waits of 40 to 90 minutes from ordering until the food arrives.
