Haus Heidrun

The apartment itself was airy, bright and very clean, with two bedrooms, a big living room and a kitchen with a dining table that seats six comfortably. The main bedroom is especially spacious. The bathroom and toilet are a good size, and the water pressure and temperature were just right. The kitchen has what you need to cook, plus a dishwasher and washing machine. There’s cable TV, though we barely used it, and the internet connection was steady. We had a balcony by the main entrance, but the rain and cold weather meant we didn't spend much time out there. It’s a quiet, attractive part of Germany, though the rural setting may not suit everyone. The area is known for wine, and there are several nearby winemakers worth visiting for tastings. From Frankfurt (am Main) airport, it took us about 50 minutes to drive there, so having your own transport is strongly recommended. Herr. Maurus was very accommodating when we arrived late and checked in, and let us park for free at the corner of his property. The apartment is on the second floor, reached by an outdoor spiral staircase that could be difficult for anyone with mobility problems. When we didn't feel like cooking, Angelo was a nice two-minute walk away. It serves Italian, German and Indian food, and we really liked the pizza. Country mornings can start with a rooster crowing quite early. We also heard what sounded like distant, muffled gunshots. I was told they were devices set to scare birds away from the fields at intervals during the day. We loved the place and its setting. It’s a great spot for a restful break with good food, very good wine, long walks and fresh country air.
