Kleine Möwe

Apartment No. 9 had two rooms and a bathroom. Parking was right by the house, and there was a small step from the path up to the front door. I didn't take photos, and there weren't any on the website either. The double room just inside had a double bed, a kitchenette, TV, an armchair with a small side table, a table and four chairs, plus bed linens and towels for each person. A new bed wouldn't hurt. At first glance it was clean, and the vinyl floor seemed easy to keep clean, though there was no broom. There were no curtains for privacy. To reach the bathroom, you have to pass through the single room. The bathroom only fits one person, and its floor towel was badly torn, more like an old, ripped cleaning rag that needed replacing. There were lots of tiny ants and a few woodlice in the double room. No idea why, since there were no food scraps around. The walls had been repainted, but damp marks still showed through. The TV hadn't been set up, and ARD, ZDF, and other channels were missing. The safe was open when we arrived, with its key visible from outside. The apartment view looked onto a construction site with earth and excavators. Morning sun reached the double room, but not the single room, which faced an alley or wall. For one night for three people, €43 including breakfast was okay. Two nights would've been borderline. It was a last-minute booking, so that was fine. To get breakfast, we crossed the street to the large Seestern building. We had to wait a little because no tables were free. The buffet was adequate, with rolls, muesli, eggs, juices, and various cold cuts, so there was something for everyone. The breakfast staff were friendly, but we didn't come across any other staff who were available.

Breakfast was plentiful, but the rolls were very hard. We would've preferred wheat rolls, since the only options were hard dark rolls and whole-grain ones. The accommodation was also very noisy, and the front door stuck, so you heard every guest arrive whatever the time. We had booked the small Möve room, but the owner put us in the Seestern room instead. It had hanging blinds and broken light switches by the bed. After we complained, we were moved to a decent room, though it was very dated. We won't come back and can't recommend it.

For two people in high season, €85 including breakfast felt like a fair deal for apartment number 6 at the Kleine Möwe (Little Gull). We stayed one night and thought the value was excellent. The apartment is bright and functional, simply furnished, with enough room for two, and it's at the side of the building so street noise is minimal. The large bed was comfortable, and everything was very clean. The bathtub beneath the sloping ceiling wasn't ideal, but workable. Breakfast at the hotel had plenty of choices for different tastes. Inside, the rooms felt quite cramped, but we could use the only table on the terrace, which was great. Proper chairs and tables out there would help ease the crowding indoors in summer.

The parking lot exit is dangerously hard to see around, creating a serious traffic risk. We think a traffic mirror needs to be installed urgently. During our four-day stay, service was disappointing: there was no cleaning partway through, the apartment wasn't vacuumed, toilet paper wasn't replenished, and the kitchen didn't even have a dishcloth. The apartment seemed acceptable at first, but the curtains were damaged and the lights above the bed had a loose connection, so they couldn't be used. The shower curtain was disgusting. If you book the optional breakfast, the quality is a major problem. The Camembert was sometimes old and dried out, the salad wilted and slimy, the eggs had a noticeably odd smell, and the rolls seemed stale. The breakfast room was dirty, with water damage on the ceiling and windows. With the service problems, room defects, poor hygiene and food, and hazardous exit, we can't recommend the vacation apartment in its current state. These areas need immediate attention, especially safety and food quality. We'll likely not return.
