BaseCamp Hotel Dortmund

For 230€ a night, I expected much more from a four-star hotel. The internet was very poor, the fridge was noisy, there was no phone in the room, and the minibar was empty. There were no slippers or bathrobe either. When I asked reception how to reach them if I needed something, I just got a smile and no answer. I don't understand the four-star rating or the high ratings on Booking.com. Really poor value for money.

The design and location are very nice, but we couldn't sleep until 5 am. A nearby nightclub and people shouting were clearly audible all night, even with the windows shut. If your room is under the rooftop bar on the 5th floor, you can also hear chairs scraping across the concrete until 11 pm. The shower drain was slow, leaving water across the bathroom, and a little seeped under the door into the room. The rooms were dusty and the pillows smelled stale; we think they hadn't been used in a while. At 200€ a night, I can't recommend it.

Sam at the front desk took the time to walk us through the rooms, prices, directions, costs, and everything else we asked about. He was extremely helpful and professional. You guys really got lucky with someone like him!

The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room itself was clean, tidy, and pleasing to look at. The air conditioner and radiator both worked perfectly. Since the hotel is in a student residence building, the hallway carpets may not be the cleanest, and the staff were just adequate. There was no fridge, pen, or paper in the room, and the bathroom had no shower door. Breakfast was standard, with very strong coffee.
