Hotel Schloss Eckberg

There’s free parking on site, and buses take you straight to the heart of town in about ten minutes. We’d definitely return. The property is magical, with beautiful castles and good restaurants on site. Our ground-floor room was on the small side, but comfortable and clean, with a modern updated bathroom. It was a great price and we couldn’t have wanted more. I’d called to mention our anniversary, though, and they put us right next to the entrance. A better room placement, or even a note in the room, would have been more thoughtful. Those little touches are what would make it five stars.

The park is great, and the rooms look out onto a garden. Breakfast was fresh and the dining area was organized very well, though I don’t understand why there were no paper napkins. The rooms are small and standard, with ordinary beds and furniture. They’re relatively clean, though there can be dust on top of cabinets, and some rooms smell like toilets that haven’t been cleaned well. They no longer feel modern, and the minibar wasn’t great. There was even a paper label for still water with no bottle there, which was odd.

The prices are fair, and the staff are friendly and quick. Breakfast on the terrace, open from 6am, comes with one of the best views of the city. The buffet is among the best I’ve tried. Coffee has to be ordered and is brought to the table, and they make cappuccino too. Comfortable rooms and a lovely garden area make this one of the best hotels in town. Highly recommend.

Staying in a castle? Yes, please! I had a wonderful time at Schloss Eckberg. The grounds were beautiful and well kept, and the food was delicious. I’d highly recommend staying here if you’re ever in Dresden, Germany.
