The student eventually got a room at the original location after the supposedly “more important” guest had left. I can't say when this sort of treatment is acceptable, but be warned: Peterhoff may cancel at short notice if you're not a big customer. Don't accept an offer of a room at Viandener Strasse 8. I booked in April 2016 for the first week of June, for a student who needed to stay nearby. The location and price were both right for us. In May, the owner emailed that he'd cancelled the booking and arranged a place at his brother's pension in Düren instead. On the phone, he said a larger customer had extended their stay, so he “had to” cancel mine, and that the alternative was offered “out of courtesy.” The student went to the distant, out-of-the-way pension and found it was a private home belonging to heavy smokers, with long hairs in the bedding that may have been human. I visited and confirmed what she'd found. After I emailed the owner, he provided her a room at the original place.

The room stayed warm and comfortable even though it was freezing outside. It's a pleasant guesthouse with good facilities, and the owner was attentive and helpful, keen to see that everything we needed was taken care of.

A perfect pension, and the house owner is a perfect host!

There are some nice practical touches: free street parking, complimentary soap and disinfectant, good quality bathrooms with rain showers, and lights throughout the house that come on with sensors. We didn't have to keep searching for switches. Mr. Peterhoff was always reachable with questions. The host was very friendly, and the price felt completely fair. We'd gladly stay again.

The kitchen was awful, with dirty dishes in the cupboards, a moldy fridge, and filthy appliances. The rest of the place was just as bad. The whole house smelled terrible as soon as you walked in, and the bathrooms were filthy, with hair in the sink and a toilet that clearly hadn't been cleaned. My room was awful too, with hair and dandruff in the bed, curtains covered in 5 cm of dust and partly moldy, white stains on the floor, and mottled walls. This is unacceptable.
