Ibis Budget Duisburg City

The name gives you a pretty clear idea: this is a budget hotel with minimal amenities. I liked the unique touches in the room, though the bathroom setup was weird. The staff were great and friendly. It’s located on a grocery store, with Aldi and the main train station both within walking distance. Just be aware there’s no elevator, and reception isn’t always staffed.

I stopped here during a long-distance cycling trip from Cologne to Rotterdam. The room was very basic but really clean, and the staff were kind and friendly. Self check-in worked well. There’s a secure bike locker in the car park, and you can ask reception for the key. The building also shares space with a Netto, which is handy.

This is a very basic budget place close to Duisburg Hbf, and it did what we needed. I liked being able to manage independently and avoid social interaction with staff, which was really cool. I wasn’t expecting luxury, and it was still very good. The room would be perfect for me if the mattresses were firmer and there were a tiny refrigerator. If you need a cheap room for a few days, it’s worth considering.

I only wanted a stop along the way to the Czech Republic and didn’t expect much, but the place was better than I thought. Parking is included, and there’s a supermarket on the ground floor that stays open until 10 pm. It’s clean, though there’s no lift. The air conditioner isn’t very effective, and you might barely feel it.
