The location is central and well connected, and it apparently used to be a great place with caring staff before it was sold in 2022. I suspect not a cent has been put back into it since, and it may keep operating until a lawsuit or hygiene complaint shuts it down. As for our stay, check-in amounted to giving our name, getting a key and being left to figure everything out. Staff didn't speak German or English fluently. The mattress barely held its shape, some had springs sticking out, and the support slats were missing, broken or barely holding on. The bathroom had a mismatched collection of leftover bulbs. The shower curtain was so rotten that showering flooded the bathroom. With no ventilation, it stayed wet unless we left the door open, which meant putting up with a putrid smell. One night, a bed collapsed and someone hit the floor. There was a fridge in the room, but it was an old domestic kitchen model, clearly decades old, with its hinge covers torn off. It kept cycling and humming and buzzing all night. The night light had also been ripped off and replaced by a sideways-mounted ceiling spot covered in messy paint splatters. Absolutely ridiculous. Don't come here unless you're desperate.

Duisburg is a great base for exploring Germany and the Netherlands, and even Paris. I spent five weeks here in the summer of 2012 while taking a summer term at the local university, and really enjoyed my stay. The rooms were great, breakfast was always delicious, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The owners are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Stay here, I think you'll love it too.

I stayed for two weeks in spring 2022, and it was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Don't trust the good reviews below, they're old and don't describe how it is now. The place was dirty and smelled bad, the staff only spoke Russian, and my room wasn't cleaned once. They didn't even take out the rubbish. The towels were like kitchen towels, there was no Wi-Fi, and the neighbors were noisy and aggressive. I asked every day for an invoice, but they never gave me one. I guess that's how they're avoiding taxes. Don't stay here unless you're really desperate.

Very bad. There were no towels in the rooms, and the beds were uncomfortable. The administrator doesn't speak English and doesn't respect room privacy, entering without permission.

NO INTERNET OR SERVICE. IT SMELLS BAD, AND I COULDN'T SLEEP BECAUSE THE TRAIN PASSED LOUDLY EVERY 10 MINUTES AND THE NEIGHBORS SPOKE LOUDLY.
