Wyndham Duisburger Hof

After a six-hour trip for a business stay, I arrived to find that my room had been given away. The front desk manager said the hotel was overbooked because I arrived in the evening, despite my reservation being confirmed a week earlier and all my documents and contact details being in place. Nobody had contacted me to ask when I’d arrive or to tell me anything had changed. I found this extremely disappointing for a four-star hotel. Renting out more rooms than it can provide and leaving guests uninformed about confirmed bookings feels very unserious and untransparent. That’s no way to treat customers, and I can’t trust a confirmed reservation here, so I wouldn’t recommend booking it. The only solution they offered was for me to take a taxi to a different hotel.

The breakfast was basic, but filling, and good value. After a long day, the shower was nice and hot, and the bed was comfortable. The location was great too.

The city view from the spacious room was lovely, and the buffet had fresh, tasty breakfast options, even if it wasn’t extravagant. It got extremely cold in our room in the evening.

I wouldn’t come back. The receptionist on arrival was very kind, but the one at checkout was quite unpleasant. We asked her to print a receipt, and she said she’d already emailed it and couldn’t print it. We then realized the amount on that receipt was wrong. The breakfast was top quality, though I didn’t like the waitress taking plates away just seconds after we’d finished. My room, 202, was very hot. There was no AC, but a fan was provided, so that part was okay. The problem was the room faced a busy street, with people passing by in cars and loud music at night.
