Hotel Ritter Durbach

Check-in and check-out were easy, and there’s plenty of parking around the hotel grounds. We booked a larger room with a private sauna and a cozy area to relax in. The room and amenities felt luxurious and were very comfortable, though we didn’t use the spa areas. The restaurant was full and busy, so we ate at the fabulous restaurant just across the street. It was delicious and deserves its own review. Breakfast was good, though nothing exceptional stood out. The hotel is dog-friendly.

We loved the vineyards in the area, and it was easy enough to hike to nearby wineries, where they have self-service cash boxes. You can also rent vintage cars from the hotel. I’m not sure whether the hotel restaurant still has its Michelin star, but the food was good either way. The place feels both vintage and modern, with the original section dating from the 1600s. A booking gives you access to the spas: there’s a basement pool with a whirlpool, several wet and dry saunas, and a rooftop with great views over the adorable village. Breakfast was delicious, with cold fish, fruit, pastries, homemade waffles, cereal, soft-boiled eggs, sparkling wine, coffee, yogurt, cheese, and more. The beds were very comfortable, especially by European standards, and the room’s air conditioning worked well. The hotel bar always had great drinks that you could take out to the lower patio.

In the middle of wine country, this is a great hotel in a quaint rural German village. The rooms are great, and the breakfast is second to none. Highly recommend!

Breakfast was incredible, and the food was exceptional, though it got busy and there was only one coffee machine, so a line formed. My room was okay but nothing extraordinary; the small balcony was very nice in the late evening. Unfortunately, the attached restaurant, makidan, didn’t work out for me. I left hungry and with a much lighter wallet. There are some nice places to eat within walking distance, though.
