We were upgraded to a beautiful room, and the hotel was tidy, clean, well cared for, and in good shape throughout. We walked to Altstadt every day, about 30 minutes each way. There’s also a large green space behind the hotel with a playground. It was lively but never crowded, and we enjoyed sitting there with a small picnic, water, or a beer. The railway line is right next door, but the soundproofing was excellent and we never heard the trains. Having two train stations just a few hundred metres away was a real plus. The staff were welcoming and attentive. The bartender was especially kind and quickly served us two excellent Weissbiers. Breakfast was good overall, with an enjoyable selection, and the staff cleared tables reasonably quickly. We would have liked more bread choices and better filter coffee. Dinner on our first evening was disappointing. I ordered the chicken advertised as 240 grams, but got two rather dry pieces that seemed overcooked. The fries were limp, and for that price the meal lacked care. My wife's salad was perfect (picture). Since that first dinner often influences whether we eat at a hotel again, we decided not to dine there for the rest of the stay. At another hotel, a waiter once noticed we were staying for a while and offered to have the kitchen make us whatever we wanted. We ate there for four weeks. Given the prices here, the food should be better. We stayed for a week and loved the city, the hotel, and the unusually warm May weather, with temperatures far above the seasonal average. We’re giving the hotel and staff five stars and choosing to forget that first dinner. We’ll be back in a month and have already booked again. Please pass the message to the kitchen, as we’re looking forward to giving it another chance.
