Egestorfer Hof Hotel

I came for a weekend with my dog to get away from the New Year's fireworks, and I'll probably return in summer for the wellness baths and barefoot park, both about a 10-minute walk away. The Heide is also within a 10-minute walk, and there’s a bus stop just two minutes away, though the hotel is way, way out of the way. There’s a grocery store across the street, and the villagers were friendly and open to visitors passing through. My room was spacious, with a 50inch television and a very comfortable bed. The whole hotel has a quaint country living look. The dinners were the real highlight for me as a professional cook. The food quality and attention to detail impressed me. I highly recommend the 48/60 beef shoulder. On the second night I ordered a medium rare burger with fries and actually got it that way. There were layers of flavor, maybe rosemary salt on the fries? My one food critique is that the cooks seemed a little in love with the salt, but not too much. A few breakfast things could be better: the rolls were tiny and could use more time in the oven, and the buffet bacon needed to cook longer. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly, though I’d have liked a touch more seasoning. There was salt and pepper on the table, so I could adjust them myself.

We needed somewhere for one night, and this little hotel was just right. A friendly young man brought us the room key as we parked the car. The service was very good, the food was good, and the kind people made sure we had what we needed. I’d recommend it for a short stay.

The quiet, cozy atmosphere made a big difference for me. I’m a fussy sleeper and usually struggle in a new place, but I haven’t slept this well in ages, even at home. The down pillows and blankets were comfortable, and the place felt safe. When I needed a plaster for a small cut, the friendly receptionist got one straight away and checked that I was okay. I felt cared for, not like just another customer. It’s a family-owned vintage hotel from 1836 in a tiny German town between Hanover and Hamburg. I loved the old furniture and the restaurant serving local produce. The people behind the place clearly care and go out of their way to make guests comfortable. Breakfast was lovely too: a huge choice of tea, local honey and homemade jam, all enjoyed among the vintage furniture. It felt like visiting distant relatives. They even gave me a kettle of hot water to take to my room for tea.

We spent two nights at Egestorfer Hof. The location is lovely, the rooms and bathrooms were very clean, and the service was great. The receptionist was friendly, and there was a good breakfast buffet. Thanks for a nice stay.
