The place fell far short of the photos and our expectations, and it wasn’t worth the price. Our normal double room was so small that with a suitcase inside, there was barely room to move. The bathroom had only handwash, no soap for showering, and the basin was so small that washing my face or brushing my teeth left water pooled on the floor. The room had a TV with just four channels and a broken bedside lamp. Despite what staff told us, we had no Wi-Fi access in the room. We’d asked for a mountain view, but our window faced a neighbor’s roof and part of a sidewalk. Reception was staffed only from 2 to 6 p.m., so anything we needed or wanted to ask after that would have to wait until the next day. The cafe downstairs from the restaurant was also closed in the evening, even on a summer weekend. Finding something to eat or drink after 6 in this small town was a real challenge. The staff seemed nice, but when I asked someone to fill my bottle with tap water in the kitchen before our hike, since the room basin was too small, he told us to use the public toilet in their restaurant, which had the same small basin. After I posted my review, they emailed me very rudely and called my partner and me “stupid” for writing it. They said they’d been so nice to us because they kept our suitcases for two extra hours after checkout and gave us an extra pillow after I complained that theirs were extremely small and uncomfortable. I’d never stay there again, even if I had to spend the night in the Black Forest.
