Gasthaus-Pension Waldesruhe

We chose this place for our second overnight stop while hiking the Palatinate Forest Trail in late September or early October. It’s a kilometer from Johanniskreuz, but it worked out well. The innkeeper even opened on their day off just for us and cooked an outstanding meal for two. When I asked him to take my backpack to the next stop because of a minor foot injury, he did it reliably for a small fee. The food was great, breakfast was superb, and the value was excellent. I found the duvets a little thin, though the heating helped. Many thanks to the innkeeper! 😃

We had a delicious vegetarian goulash specially made for us in the evening, followed by a good, simple breakfast with eggs, cheese, jams, and more. The location is peaceful and excellent for hiking, not far from Johanniskreuz. Rooms are plain but clean, with a sink; the large bathroom is warm and has a shower, while the toilet is in the hallway. There’s also a shared room with a refrigerator, TV, and terrace access.

The breakfast was so generous I couldn’t finish it all. My single room had everything I needed, and the host was very friendly and full of hiking tips. Definitely worth staying one night or more, especially for the great value.

The innkeeper’s rather unfriendly manner made it hard to feel welcome. The rooms are quite dated and not suitable for allergy sufferers, though there’s free bicycle parking, open for anyone to access. On the plus side, breakfast is ample, the place is clean, and it’s affordable. There’s also a wash station for bikes and a spot for minor repairs.
