Hotel Münster

We were glad we chose this place. It’s a sweet family hotel with easy access for trips around the Rhine and Moselle. Our room had a small balcony, where it was nice to sit and chat in the evening, and the minibar had juices and beers at very affordable prices. There’s no air conditioning, but even in 36-degree weather the room didn’t get too hot. Everything was spotlessly clean and equipped with just about what you need. Breakfast offered a good selection of ham, cheese, breads, and jams. The owner somehow handled reception and got breakfast drinks to everyone quickly and efficiently.

I can’t speak to the hotel itself because I never stayed there. My rating is based on the customer service I experienced. A few days before the trip, I booked three nights with breakfast through Booking.com. The listing gave me the impression that the reservation was free to make and could be cancelled, and that payment would be due on arrival. My wife’s grandfather then became ill, so I cancelled within an hour. I found out afterward that the hotel had charged me the full €264. When I asked for a refund, I was told very brusquely that there was no error and that the fine print said cancellations within seven days were non-refundable. Booking.com customer service tried twice, by phone and email, to mediate with Hotel Munster, but it didn’t help. The hotel wouldn’t offer even a partial refund or voucher, or let me move the booking to another date, which I was willing to do. In direct messages, staff were rude and even aggressive, saying it was my fault and there was nothing they could do. To me, that’s the opposite of hospitality, and I wouldn’t consider staying there. These are bad business practices by any measure. Caveat emptor.

The staff are really welcoming, and the hotel is nice all round. It’s clean, there’s plenty of space, and the room layout works well. The shower pressure is a 10/10 too.

Our car broke down nearby, so we needed somewhere for the night. The staff were incredibly kind, and within five minutes of arriving we had a room key and all the information we needed.
