Haus Hollereben

The mountain view was lovely, and the Bavarian-style furniture gave the place a cozy feel. We stayed five nights in a one-bedroom suite for two. It was just enough space for us, though it’s set up for four and felt cramped to move around in. The bed was very comfortable, but the sofas were old and a little saggy. Cleaning was only so-so, and the bathroom taps barely worked. The kitchen was also very sparse: one narrow, warped cutting board, few utensils, no sponges, detergent, foil, or cling film. There was just one dishwasher tablet per day, and the garbage bags only lasted one wash.

Right by the brine pipeline trail, so it’s a great spot to walk the dogs, pause for a bit, or set off on a hike. The place is clean and cozy, centrally located, and the people are friendly. It was my first visit, and I’d happily come back. One thing from day two: the mattresses in apartment one probably need replacing. Since the second night, I’ve felt every bone in my back.

The contactless check-in was easy, and booking the five nights through Booking.com went smoothly. Still, we were disappointed once we arrived. There was only one bedroom for our group of four, which wasn’t clear from the photos, and the old sofa bed was uncomfortable because of its slats. We’d brought very little with us because Booking.com said essentials like towels, toilet paper, and cooking equipment were provided. There was only one roll of toilet paper for four people, and with the public holiday coming up, we couldn’t get more. The kitchen was so sparsely stocked that we couldn’t cook as planned and had to eat out every day. It had three large mugs, poor knives, no proper cooking utensils or dish soap, and too few dishwasher tablets for daily use. The bathroom had two shower gel samples, and there was some mold in the skylight. The balcony still smelled strongly of varnish and wasn’t fully finished. The stairwell air was stale, as if it hadn’t been aired out. The place was reasonably clean, with one large and one small towel per person, but the rooms looked much more inviting in the photos. That’s why we gave it two stars.

We had a lovely short break in a comfortable, peaceful apartment. The contact was very friendly, and the place is practical and has everything you need. Even our family of four adults and one child had a wonderful holiday there. It’s also a handy base for short trips.
