Hotel-Restaurant Kölbl

We went for a birthday party and had a five-course meal. The lamb was cooked just right, and the friendly wait staff did a good job bringing the food around. Even the three sets of knives and forks were laid out in the proper places. It’s a very good restaurant, and I’d suggest wearing dress pants and a collared shirt.

I’ve been coming here for 10 years, and it keeps getting better. The hosts are so friendly and attentive. We were seated right away as a table of four, and the owner asked what we wanted to drink. We chose red wine, and he brought us a delicious cuvée from Landau at a great price. I had the four-course menu, and every dish was delicious, with the timing spot on. Scallops with salad, fish with mashed potatoes and lobster sauce, medium steak wrapped in bacon, spinach, potatoes au gratin, and crème brûlée with ice cream and fruit, the best I’ve ever had. Everyone at the table also got bread with a spread and radishes, plus a gnocchi from the chef. The food, wine, atmosphere, and hosts are all wonderful.

The room had just been renovated and was very clean. For dinner I had the four-course menu, made with very high-quality ingredients and prepared well. It’s one of the best restaurants in the area. The hotel is in a traditional German town, a few minutes from Kaiserslautern and away from the city bustle, with a grocery store and train station nearby.

The family owners are friendly and multilingual, and the whole visit is always pleasant. The European food is excellent, with professional cooking and serving staff, and good value for money. Weekday lunch specials are available, with courtyard dining in spring and summer. The rooms and toilets have been recently renovated. The train station is close by, with connections to most major German cities and to Paris, France, via Kaiserslautern, Germany.
